Duplex and super duplex in tubular applications
When chloride levels, corrosion behaviour, pressure and strength requirements become more demanding, duplex and super duplex materials can move into the conversation. These are not casual upgrades from carbon steel; they usually reflect a real application driver.
Why they appear in specifications
These materials offer a useful combination of mechanical strength and corrosion resistance in environments where standard carbon steel or lower-spec alloys may be inappropriate.
They are often part of a broader engineering decision rather than a standalone purchasing preference.
Commercial consequences
Once a project moves into duplex or super duplex territory, source approval, lead time, traceability and cost become more sensitive. The supplier therefore needs to think carefully about viable routes rather than making careless promises.
